Non communicable disease research unit (NCDRUPAU) has been established by the order of the Honorable Vice Chancellor of PAU because of current global attention and call from WHO and other UN agencies to take important measures for the prevention and control of non communicable diseases and mitigate their impacts on the world population especially on women, who are usually the primary caregivers.
United Nations Special Summit on NCDs
During the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2010, a resolution was passed to call for a high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and treatment NCDs with the participation of heads of state and government.
Accordingly, the Department of Biochemistry (DB) at PAU focuses to initiate its research activities towards addressing the NCD related problems in Bangladesh. DB-PAU identifies the following thrust areas for NCD researches in Bangladesh.
Cardiovascular and Neurodegenerative diseases (collaboration with International Islamic University, Malaysia, has been initiated)
